Great Academies Education Trust will be leading on one of the Department for Education (DfE) newly reformed National Professional Qualifications which have been revised to more accurately support teachers and leaders to develop their skills and abilities.

The Trust will be involved in delivering a brand-new national qualification in Leading Behaviour and Culture, which is a course setup to help aspiring teachers develop a culture of high expectations and good behaviour in their school as well as support pupil wellbeing.

The qualification programme will be led by the Trusts Director of Education Phil Smith and supported in the delivery by senior members from Great Academy Ashton including Principal David Waugh. Teachers and school leader’s looking to take up the Leading Behaviour and Culture course will benefit further from the academies additional involvement in the DfE’s National Behaviour Hub initiative, which aims to improve pupil behaviour in schools by taking a whole school approach and embedding a clear, sustainable behaviour culture throughout the school.

The new DfE professional qualifications are structured to complement and build on each other, offering clear progression pathways for school staff who want to make a wide-reaching impact – as leaders in their own organisations, and as the driving force behind local and national education partnerships.

Brendan Loughran, CEO of Great Academies Education Trust, said “We are committed to instilling aspiring and established leaders with the skills they need to build a self-improving education system, and the NPQ programmes are designed to facilitate the sharing of best practice and contribute to the professional and personal development of the school workforce”.

Great Academies Education Trust is working with the Forward As One Academy Trust, who are managing the Early Career Framework (ECF) and the National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) across the North West region. The Forward As One Trust, which works across 4 local authorities, is supported by the Ambition Institute, whose modular approach to delivery has been rated the highest of all the Early Career Framework providers in the DfE early roll-out in 2020/2021.

“We are all working together to deliver the best possible outcomes for our teachers and school leaders and I am pleased that we have a number of quality delivery partners on board. These programmes are just the beginning of what will become a high-quality CPD programme for teachers and schools’ leaders across the North West over the coming year. We know that effective staff development is a vital part of any school’s improvement journey, enabling them to recruit, retain and grow talented colleagues.”
